The project deals with the at first contradicting charactaristics of the artistic work from BILL VIOLA and the 80s disco pop duo MILLI VANILLI and discovers exciting parallels. Bill Viola’s imitating video interpretations from existing renaissance paintings distinguish themselves through dramatic stagings in slow motion. Drama and imitation are as well part of Milli Vanilli. The looks of the twinlike singers, their public appearances and their music clips strive for perfection, dramatic romance and artistic synchrony, as it should be in the pop world. The band success vanished when it went public that they didn’t sing any of their vocals on their own. It’s about a illusory world, it’s about representing yourself as something you are not.
This extreme form of fakeness inspired us to work with mockups, dummies and other obscurities that are solidly anchored in everyday life: plastic flowers, battery powered candles, wigs etc. In slow motion a world of illusion gets unmasked in its full beauty.
Milli Vanilli got exhibited at Raumschiff Linz in 2019.

Das Projekt befasst sich mit den auf den ersten Blick unvereinbaren Charakteristiken der künstlerischen Arbeiten von BILL VIOLA und dem 80er Disko-Pop-Duo MILLI VANILLI und entdeckt aufregende verbindende Elemente. Bill Violas imitierende Video-Interpretationen von bereits existierenden Renaissance-Gemälden profilieren sich durch eine dramatische Inszenierung in Slow Motion. Dramatik und Imitation findet man auch bei Milli Vanilli. Der Look der fast zwillingshaften Sänger, ihre öffentliche Erscheinung und Musik-Clips streben nach übertriebener Perfektion, dramatischer Romantik und künstlicher Synchronität, wie es sich in der Pop-Welt gehört. Der Erfolg der Band schwand, als publik wurde, dass die beiden keinen einzigen Ton selber singen. Es handelt sich um eine Scheinwelt, darum, etwas darzustellen, das man gar nicht ist.
Diese extreme Art von Künstlichkeit inspirierte dazu mit bereits im Alltag fest verankerten Mock-Ups, Dummies und anderen Obskuritäten zu arbeiten: Plastik-Blumen, Batterie-betriebene Kerzen, Perücken etc. In Slow Motion wird eine Scheinwelt in ihrer vollen Schönheit entlarvt!
2019 wurde Milli Vanilli im Raumschiff Linz ausgestellt.
